[ HOW TO WORK WITH STUDIO NXUMALO ]

LABOUR & RESEARCH.

The Studio welcomes proposals for long-term participation with farmers, land stewards, conservationists and rural communities engaged in meaningful care for the land, for periods ranging from one to twelve months.

This participation brings practical labour and artistic research into a shared process. Time spent working alongside a host, team or community provides an opportunity to learn through practical skills, local knowledge, established processes and different approaches to land stewardship, while contributing meaningfully to the work already being undertaken.

The Studio contributes through fieldwork and immersion in a landscape, community or institution, working across photography, filmmaking, field notes, observation and practical labour undertaken alongside the host and their team.

Each participation contributes to Studio Nxumalo’s ongoing research into how people inhabit, work with, and assume responsibility for land, while creating an opportunity for knowledge, skills and perspectives to be exchanged through sustained engagement.

GEAR.

Field-tested gear shapes the way this work is made, from notebooks and workwear to camping equipment and outdoor tools.

If your products are designed for long-term use, living and working outdoors, I am interested in putting them to work in real field conditions.

Every collaboration becomes part of an honest, ongoing record of land stewardship, labour and artistic practice.
